i'm blowing off palomar's cd release show tonight at the mercury lounge. bad woj.

saw vienna teng at the university of hartford last night. she was quite good, as always. i don't know why i like her music as much as i do. [info]mcurry and i were talking a bit about this before the show. she writes pretty straight-forward stuff with lyrics that are quite earnest and not at all oblique. but she has a gorgeous voice and always seems to surround herself with fantastic musicians. last night, she had marika hughes, dina maccabee and alex wong (from the animators). and it was quite lovely. the set, for the record:

First set: Blue Caravan / Whatever You Want / The Tower / Unwritten Letter #1 / Nothing Without You / Transcontinental 1:30 AM / I Don't Feel So Well / 1br/1ba [w/ 9 to 5 interlude]

Second set: Homecoming / Daughter / Now Three / Gravity / Recessional / City Hall / Green Island Serenade [acapella]

Encore: Soon Love Soon

as always, it was nice seeing [info]mcurry and [info]arcaedia. and it was a pleasure to meet [info]matociquala.

for those wondering, the recording of the show came out good, if slightly weird because we were sitting in the front row pretty much even with the pa. i hope to get it up on the archive soon.
